Recent research has uncovered troubling data:
  • 500 million people live on the verge of starvation
  • 200 million children are exploited for labor
  • 93 million people beg for their subsistence
  • 1.2 billion people live on less than $1 per day
News of these extreme issues, which occur not only in third world countries, but right here in the USA, is normally delivered in newspapers and magazines.

But with the public's ability, and growing preference, to read their news on-line, and to be selective about what they see, levels of awareness of human suffering are declining.

With reduced advertising spending for print media, serious cuts are being made at regional and national newspapers, adding to the declining coverage of serious humanitarian, animal rights, and social issues.

The bottom line is, there are more victims than ever, but their opportunities for timely relief are rapidly dwindling.

This is a broadly discussed problem, but solutions are vague and inconclusive.
